Nike Cross Nationals - Portland, Oregon 6 December, 2009
Heavy fog, near freezing temperatures and a very muddy course didn't stop the Burnt Hills boys XC team from having a great experience at NXN. Video of the boys race and results can be seen here. Photos can be seen here. Congratulations to the Spartan boys on an amazing Cross Country season!

Burnt Hills Boys Pull Off Upset - Heading to NXN in Portland! 21 November, 2009


All the family and friends who came to watch the Burnt Hills Runners race in Bowdoin Park weren't too crazy about the cold, windy weather, but it certainly didn't stop the Spartan boys from running the race of their season on Saturday. Otis Ubriaco ran an amazing race, finishing in first place. Scott Maughan finished in 9th and he, Chris Fernandez (34th), Sean Pezzulo (37th), Dan Fernandez (69th), Joe Chapman (113th) and Kevin Terbush (117th) will be joining Otis in Portland, Oregon, this Saturday.
The Burnt Hills girls also competed, finishing in sixth place, with Kiersten Anderson (29th) and Riley Wilk (37th) leading the team.

Otis Ubriaco and the Burnt Hills Boys win Individual and Team State Championship! 14 November, 2009


The cold, rainy weather in Plattsburgh didn't slow the Burnt Hills runners as both the girls and boys team had great races at this year's state meet.
Otis Ubriaco won the NY State Class A championship, followed by teammate Scott Maughan in third and Sean Pezzulo in 13th place. Chris and Dan Fernandez were the fourth and fifth runners for the team, with Kevin Terbush and Joe Chapman also turning in fast times. When the scores were tallied, Burnt Hills had finished in first place for the second year in a row. Congratulations, boys!
Molly Pezzulo (6th place), Kiersten Anderson (8th), Rachael Cyrus (17th) and Alyssa Drapeau (20th) did a great job of representing the lady Spartan XC team, with all four girls finishing in the top 20! Nice job, ladies!

Burnt Hills Boys win Class A Sectionals 6 November, 2009

Congratulations to the Burnt Hills Spartan boys team who are heading to the State Championship next weekend after winning Class A Sectionals with an strong 1-2-3-4-7 finish. Top 7 runners included Scott Maughan, Otis Ubriaco, Sean Pezzulo, Chris Fernandez, Dan Fernandez, Kevin Terbush and Joe Chapman.
Burnt Hills girls placed third in Sectionals and runners Molly Pezzulo, Kiersten Anderson, Rachael Cyrus and Alyssa Drapeau will also be heading to next week's State Championship in Plattsburgh.

Burnt Hills Invitational Results 17 Oct 2009




A huge thank you to all the runners, coaches, spectators and parent volunteers who partipated in the 2009 Burnt Hills Invitational. Despite the threat of freezing cold and rain, we enjoyed some beautiful -- if a little chilly -- fall weather and some great running. Results can be found here. McQuaid Invitational 3 Oct 2009
Nearly 50 Burnt Hills runners as well as lots of family and friends enjoyed some beautiful weather and great running at the McQuaid Invitational this year.
The Boys JV team got BHBL off to a fantastic start by scoring a low 18 points to win their race, thanks to Kevin Terbush (1st), Joe Chapman (2nd), Buddy Herkenham (3rd), Joe Girard (5th) and James Mango (7th).
In the sophomore girls race, Stephanie Carrier (2nd) and Anastasia Monsen (6th) helped the team to a first place win. (Josette Messere and Sheila Bashant were 7th and 9th in team scoring).
Kiersten Anderson's 7th place finish in the AA Seeded Varsity Girls race helped her team finish in second place, and Schuyler Pruyn's huge lead in the Girls JV race, followed by Klara Widrig (3rd), Abigail Dubois (5th), Catherine Zarnofsky (7th) and Amelia Zaengle (9th) gave the JV girls the win.
At the end of the day, the Varsity boys raced up a class and finished second in the AAA Seeded Varsity race, just 7 points behind current NY #2 Liverpool. The top three runners for BHBL were Scott Maughan (9th), Otis Ubriaco (10th) and Chris Fernandez (11th). Overall merged results (seeded AAA, AA and A combined) show Burnt Hills Varsity boys in first place.

Baldwinsville and Queensbury Invitationals 26 Sep 2009
The Spartan girls traveled north and boys traveled west on the last weekend in September to compete in the Queensbury Invitational (girls) and the Baldwinsville (Syracuse) Invitational (boys). Queensbury results can be found here. Anastasia Monsen was a top ten finisher for the girls, taking second place in the Freshman Girls race.

IMPORTANT Burnt Hills Invitational Update 24 Sep 2009
There has been a schedule change for the BH Invitational due to a conflict at Saratoga State Park. The Invy will begin at 8:30 am with the Girls' Freshman race. Please see the Invitational page for the new schedule and more details as well as a list of teams that are entered.

Hartford Riverfront Invitational (girls) 19 Sep 2009
Congratulations to the Burnt Hills Girls Varsity team, who traveled to Hartford, CT, this weekend and won the Riverfront Invitational there. Kiersten Anderson, Rachael Cyrus, and Riley Wilk all finished in the top ten. Nice job, Lady Spartans! Results can be found here and photos (by John Nepolitan) can be seen here.

Guilderland Invitational (boys) 12 Sep 2009
The Spartan boys traveled to Tawasentha Park this weekend for the Guilderland Invitational. The Freshman, JV and Varsity teams ran well against some strong competition. In a tight race, Scott Maughan just edged out Shen's Dan Harris for the large school Varsity win, while Chris Fernandez bested last season's course time by almost 1.5 minutes for a 3rd place finish and brother Dan finished a strong 8th. Fonda-Fultonville Invitational (boys) 5 Sep 2009
The JV and Varsity boys had great races today at the Fonda-Fultonville Invitational. Scott Maughan won the Varsity race, followed by Otis Ubriaco in 3rd, Chris Fernandez in 4th and Dan Fernandez in 6th. The JV competition was won by Kevin Terbush, with James Mango finishing 3rd and Drew Loeffler in 5th. Both teams are off to a fast start for the season! Congratulations to all the runners. BHBL Girls Run at Niskayuna Ekiden 5 September 2009
Congratulations to the Spartan Girls, who did a great job at the Niskayuna Ekiden this weekend. The Varsity Teams took first and second in the relay, with top Varsity splits run by Kiersten Anderson (1st), Stephanie Carrier (3rd), Riley Wilk (5th) and Meaghan Roecker (6th). The Freshman Girls race included some great performances by Burnt Hills runners, including Anastasia Monson in 1st and Josette Messere in 5th. Meet the Team Night - date change 28 August 2009
Our Annual Meet the Team night has been changed to Thursday, September 10, 2009, at 6:30 p.m. at the Saratoga State Park (right by the Hall of Springs). It's a great chance to hear from the coaches, meet this year's runners, and learn what BHBL cross country is all about. This get-together is a great kick-off for our 2009 Cross Country season and we hope to see you all there!

Double DMR National Champions! 13 March 2009
Congratulations to Scott Maughan, Chris Fernandez, Kent Harlow, and Otis Ubriaco for winning the Boys Distance Medley Relay at the National Scholastic Championship at the Armory in NYC in a school-record time of 10:17.76.
Just minutes later, the Burnt Hills Girls team of Meaghan Gregory, Kendra Adams, Mollly Pezzulo and Sam Roecker went on to win the Girls Distance Medley Relay in a time of 11:52.61. The Burnt Hills boys placed second in the Large School Varsity race at the Baldwinsville Invitational and fourth in the Junior Varsity race. Top ten finishers for the boys included Scott Maughan (1st in Varsity), Chris Fernandez (7th in Varsity) and Kevin Terbush (2nd in the JV race). Dartmouth Relays 10 January 2009
More snowy, cold weather for Spartan fans as they made the trip to Hanover, NH, to watch the boys' and girls' indoor track teams participate in the Dartmouth Relays. Top finishers included Kendra Adams (first place in the 600m), Sam Roecker (second place in the mile run), and Scott Maughan (second place in the 2-mile run).
One exciting moment (captured above by John Pezzulo) was the 2nd heat of the seeded mile, where sophomore Otis Ubriaco came from behind to win the heat by 0.01 seconds!

Bishop Loughlin Games at NYC Armory 21 Dec 2008
The first major invitational of the season found some of our BHBL runners heading down to the Armory in New York City. The teams did well, with the following runners placing in the top 10 in their event: Scott Maughan (6th in the 2 mile run), Kendra Adams (7th in the 600 meter run), Otis Ubriaco (8th in the 1 mile run).
